Important Dates
This week in 4th grade:
ELA (English, Language Arts)
We are learning about reading scientific and technical texts in literacy this week. There will be multiple opportunities to practice these skills together, then the kids will demonstrate their knowledge on an assessment.
Writing
We will wrap up our informational writing assignment on famous locations, building, symbols, and people of North Carolina. We will be completing the research online using a graphic organizer, then we will create the final product on Discovery Education’s Board Builder tool. The students will each present their project to the class the week of April 3rd.
Social Studies
After the unit on rocks and minerals in science we will come back to study the American Revolution including important battles in the country and North Carolina’s role in the Revolution.
Science
We will be learning about the types of rocks: sedimentary, metamorphic, and igneous. We will also explore the rock cycle.
Math
We will be adding, subtracting, and comparing decimals.

- We will have a class trip to the book fair on April 4th at 9:15. This is the only time we will go as a class, so please feel free to send your child to school with money to spend there. If you are sending cash please put it in a bag or envelope with their name on it.
- We will have spring pictures on April 4th as well!
- Camp Invention
- Parents,
- Summer is around the corner and it's time to start thinking about summer camps to keep children engaged and learning even after school is out. Camp Invention is a summer camp happening for 4 days at our school! Students will learn creative problem solving, teamwork, and innovation through hands-on activities. Even more, Camp Invention is run by your very own Sharon teachers. Camp dates are June 19-22 from 9:00am- 3:30pm. - Decimals Test Friday 3/30
- The kids will need to be able to convert fractions with a denominator of 10 and 100 to a decimal, add, subtract, and compare decimals.

- Discovery Education Board Builder Project about North Carolina should be completed by Thursday 3/30. We will be presenting these to the class next week.
- We will have a Reading Assessment on Wednesday 3/29. This will cover many of the comprehension skills we have recently learned.
- We will have an assessment on Weathering and Erosion as well as rocks and minerals sometime around 4/6
