Mrs. Crabtree’s weekly newsletter 11/28/16
kcrabtree.weebly.com
Hi parents,
I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving weekend! Sorry, this message didn't make it out yesterday, in the rush to hide the clutter in my house in anticipation of my mother-in-laws visit I put the charger to my Chromebook in a ¨safe place¨. The location of which I promptly forgot.
Important Dates
This week in 4th grade:
ELA (English, Language Arts)
Literacy Workshop
Social Studies: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday morning
We will be learning about how interdependence in colonial america was essential to survival and how the different roles that people had during this time helped with their survival. We will recognize that inferences help us better understand what an author is trying to tell us and we will make inferences based on primary sources.
Science: Monday, Friday
We will be learning about the concepts of static electricity and lightning. This will include what creates these charges of energy, how they travel, and safety rules regarding them.
Literacy
We will be learning reading non-fiction articles, recognizing the text features evident in these articles and learning how to stop throughout the article to check for understanding. We will practice stopping to record our inner conversation and recognizing the main idea of a passage and details that support the main idea.
Writing
We will have our Week 10 DLI test on Friday. We will be reading an article called Black Sunday: The Shocking Story of the Biggest Dust Storm in American History. We will then imagine that we are the main character in the story and write a letter to a friend describing the storm and it’s causes from the character’s perspective.
Math
This week we will be learning about prime and composite numbers and how to find the factors of a number using the associative property and division. We will solve multi-step word problems including the four different operations. We will be solving division problems with a three digit divided, for example 634/3.
Please let me know if you have any questions or comments,
